About Rory

Before starting my degree, I moved to South Korea straight after completing sixth year in Scotland. I spent a year studying Korean through an intensive language programme at Hanyang University in Seoul before beginning my Physics degree at Pusan National University.

I achieved an A grade in every subject I studied at National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher level, including:

  • Physics – National 5, Higher, Advanced Higher

  • Chemistry – National 5, Higher, Advanced Higher

  • Maths – National 5, Higher

  • English – National 5, Higher

  • Spanish – National 5, Higher

I now tutor remotely on a one-to-one basis, helping students build their understanding and confidence. As I'm based in South Korea, the time difference works particularly well for students in Scotland, with evenings in Korea naturally lining up with after-school hours in the UK.

Having recently been through the Scottish school system myself, I understand the demands of National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher courses from a student's perspective. I aim to make lessons clear, supportive and focused on helping students understand why something works, not simply memorise an answer.

How I Structure Our Sessions

Every lesson is adapted to what you need, but a typical one-hour session follows this structure:

10 minutes – Recap

20 minutes – New topic

Review the previous session, tackle any difficult homework problems, and consolidate what we’ve learned before moving on.

Learn a new topic through clear, worked examples that we work through together. Complex concepts are broken down into manageable steps, with a focus on exactly what the SQA expects.

25 minutes – Practice

5 minutes – Review

Work through increasingly challenging problems before progressing to real exam-style and past paper questions. I’ll explain exactly where and how marks are awarded, helping you understand what examiners are looking for.

Recap the key concepts and address any sticking points. I’ll then set a small number of targeted practice questions to reinforce what we’ve covered before the next session.
